Heat pump installers in Noord-Brabant

Heat Pump Installers in Noord-Brabant: 72 Certified Companies

Brabant gets things done. While other provinces commission reports and form working groups, the Brabant installer is already on the roof. That combination of southern sociability and no-nonsense entrepreneurship may explain why Noord-Brabant has the highest number of heat pump installers in the Netherlands: 72 companies, spread across the province.

The explanation is also more practical than cultural. Noord-Brabant has the housing type that suits heat pumps best: the detached home. Nowhere in the Netherlands is the share of single-family homes with their own plot as high as here. From the Peel to the Baronie, from the Kempen to the Land van Heusden en Altena: houses with room for an outdoor unit, a garden for ground loops, and a garage or utility room for the indoor unit. That is a very different proposition from Amsterdam's apartments or Rotterdam's walk-up flats.

The housing stock is recognisable across the province. The cities (Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda, Den Bosch) have the familiar Dutch mix of pre-war, post-war, 1970s expansion, and recent new-build. Outside the cities, the detached home dominates: farmhouses, bungalows, semi-detached, villas. Many were built in the 1970s and 1980s with reasonable but not optimal insulation.

Brabant's sandy soil is an extra asset. It is excellently suited for ground-source heat pumps, with relatively low installation costs for both horizontal and vertical ground loops.

Top Municipalities by Installer Count

Good spread across the province, with concentrations in the five major cities and a fine-grained network beyond.

Best, located between Eindhoven and Oirschot, is notably well-represented for a municipality of 30,000 people. Its position at the junction of the A2 and A58 motorways makes it a logistics hub for installers serving the entire Eindhoven region.

Heat Pumps in Brabant: Sandy Soil, Space, and Craftsmanship

Noord-Brabant combines three properties that make it an ideal heat pump province: the right housing types, the right soil, and enough installers to meet demand.

Detached homes: Brabant's sweet spot. A detached house of 140-180 m2 from the 1980s, on a plot of 400-600 m2, with cavity wall insulation and HR+ glazing. That is the typical Brabant heat pump customer. The home has space for an outdoor unit, the roof is usually suitable for solar panels (to power the heat pump), and the heat demand after additional insulation sits around 8,000-10,000 kWh per year. An 8-10 kW air-to-water system -- Daikin Altherma 3 R, Vaillant aroTHERM plus, or Samsung EHS Mono -- handles it. Cost: EUR 8,000-12,000.

Ground-source in Brabant's sandy soil. The sand in the Kempen, the Peel, and parts of western Brabant is excellent for horizontal ground loops. Installation costs are EUR 2,000-4,000 lower than in clay regions. A complete ground-source system (including loops, heat pump, and installation) starts at EUR 14,000 in Brabant. NIBE, Thermia and CTC are the popular brands. For larger homes above 200 m2, this is often the wisest long-term investment.

Urban challenges. In the city centres of Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda, houses stand closer together. Noise regulations become a consideration. Eindhoven enforces strict standards for outdoor units in the inner city. Installers often recommend a split system with a quiet outdoor component, or a monoblock unit installed indoors. The Bosch Compress 5800i AW Mono at 36 dB(A) is an option here.

Industrial heritage conversions. Brabant has a rich industrial past: textile factories in Tilburg, shoemaking in Waalwijk, Philips in Eindhoven. Many of those buildings have been converted into homes or lofts, typically well-insulated with modern systems. A heat pump is a natural addition.

Subsidies and Financing

ISDE National Subsidy

EUR 1,000 to EUR 4,675 per heat pump.

Brabant-Specific Programmes

  • Brabantse Aanpak Duurzame Energie (BADE): provincial programme supporting municipalities in the energy transition. No direct individual subsidy, but funds local energy desks and collective programmes.
  • Municipality of Eindhoven: the Eindhoven Energieneutraal 2030 programme offers sustainability loans up to EUR 25,000, free energy advice, and collective purchasing schemes.
  • Municipality of Tilburg: sustainability loan via SVn. Energy coaches through Tilburgs Energieloket.
  • Municipality of Breda: the Breda Doet programme offers insulation subsidies and sustainability loans. Extra support for VvEs.
  • Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch: energy loan up to EUR 20,000. Collective purchasing schemes for heat pumps.
  • Warmtefonds: national scheme, loans up to EUR 25,000 for lower incomes.

The Brabant municipalities often collaborate in regional partnerships. The Metropoolregio Eindhoven has a joint sustainability programme offering scale advantages to residents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which heat pump suits homes in Noord-Brabant?

For the typical Brabant detached or semi-detached home: an 8-10 kW air-to-water heat pump, ideally combined with solar panels. For large homes on spacious plots: ground-source, taking advantage of the sandy soil. In city centres: a quiet air-to-water unit or a hybrid. The choice depends on your insulation level, budget, and whether you want to go fully gas-free.

How much does a heat pump cost in Noord-Brabant?

Brabant is slightly cheaper than the Randstad. Air-to-water: EUR 7,000-12,000. Ground-source: EUR 14,000-22,000 (favourable thanks to sandy soil). Hybrid: EUR 4,000-7,000. Additional costs for underfloor heating (EUR 3,000-6,000) or insulation may apply. After ISDE and municipal schemes, you save EUR 2,500-7,000.

Are there local subsidies in Noord-Brabant?

All major Brabant cities have their own programmes. Eindhoven offers loans up to EUR 25,000, Tilburg and Breda have SVn sustainability loans, and Den Bosch has energy loans up to EUR 20,000. The Metropoolregio Eindhoven organises collective purchasing. Combine with the national ISDE and Warmtefonds.

How many installers are there in Noord-Brabant?

With 72 installers, Noord-Brabant has the highest count of any province. Eindhoven leads with 8, followed by Tilburg and Best (5 each). Bergen op Zoom has 4, Helmond and Oosterhout 3 each. Average rating: 4.7 out of 5 based on 3,329 reviews. Distribution across the province is good: even smaller towns in the Peel and Kempen have installers.

Which brands are popular in Noord-Brabant?

Daikin is the most-installed brand, followed by Vaillant and Samsung. For ground-source: NIBE and Thermia dominate. The Remeha Elga Ace is the hybrid standard. Bosch is gaining ground with the Compress line, especially in new builds. Brabant installers are generally skilled and brand-independent: they advise based on your home, not on the brand with the highest margin.

Energy Transition in Noord-Brabant

Average gas consumption is 1,300 m3 per household per year. In detached homes in the countryside, this can rise to 1,800 m3. A heat pump reduces consumption by 50-100% depending on type.

Eindhoven has the ambition to be energy-neutral by 2030 -- one of the most aggressive targets in the Netherlands. Tongelre and Woensel-Zuid are designated gas-free pilot areas. Tilburg is developing a city-centre heating network fed by industrial waste heat. Breda is pursuing a combination of geothermal energy and individual heat pumps.

The Brabant population is practically minded. Heat pump demand here grows faster than the national average, driven by the suitable housing stock and the active installer market. Wait times in Brabant average six to eight weeks, shorter than in the Randstad.
