Heat pump payback period calculator

A heat pump is a significant investment. This calculator gives you an indicative view of your annual savings, payback period, CO₂ reduction and potential ISDE subsidy — based on your home type, construction year and current energy consumption. Calculations use average COP values for Dutch heat pump systems and current energy prices.

How this calculator works

The tool calculates savings by converting your current gas consumption into the electricity required for a heat pump. It uses realistic COP (Coefficient of Performance) ranges per heat pump type: 2.8–3.5 for air-to-water, 3.5–4.2 for hybrid and 3.8–4.5 for ground-source. ISDE subsidy amounts come from the 2026 subsidy table on RVO.nl.

Please note — indicative calculation

This calculator provides a first indication. Actual savings depend on insulation, radiators/underfloor heating, usage behaviour and the specific device. For an exact calculation a certified installer must perform a heat loss calculation according to ISSO guidelines.
